HOW TO GET THERE
From Oudtshoorn, follow the clearly marked road to Schoemanshoek and the Cango Caves.
Just before the Caves, the turnoff onto the Swartberg Pass to Prince Albert is clearly indicated.

MORE INFORMATION
From Nov 1881 onwards, the road over the Swartberg was built by Thomas Baine with the aid of approx 240 convicts.

Cost of construction was R29,000 (cost was estimated beforehand to be around R40,000)

The 24km road, now a national monument, was completed in December 1897 and opened to the public in 1898.

The road is not tarred and generally in a reasonable condition. A normal sedan type vehicle can be used. We are of the opinion that the road is best enjoyed if travelled from Oudtshoorn to Prince Albert. (South to North)
