    HOW TO GET THERE
From Cape Town follow the road to Ceres. Then follow the R46 for about 45km and turn onto the R355 to Calvinia. The park is about 120km on.

    DETAIL
The 80 000 hectare Tankwa Karoo National Park (designated as a Scientific National Park) was proclaimed in 1986 and is still in a development stage. At present it is in a veld recovery phase and it will be some time before the original vegetation re-establishes itself.

The Tankwa Karoo is one of the most arid sections of the Karoo. Average rainfall is only 80mm a year but even so, after the occasional shower, the park erupts into a dazzling display of flowering succulents.

There is no tourism infrastructure in the park. As a rule the park is not open to the public. Special entry permission can be requested through direct contact with park management.

    Mean temperatures: Minimum(July): 5,7°C. Maximum(January): 38,9°C.

    WHAT TO DO AND SEE
Experience and enjoy one of the most beautiful parts of the arid Karoo.
